FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - In what is becoming a regular occurrence between Valdosta State and Nova Southeastern, the game came down to the final minutes. Despite a late three-pointer from Leschelle Matthews, Nova Southeastern prevailed, 61-57, over the Lady Blazers Tuesday night.
The game was hotly contested with 14 lead changes and 12 ties. There were 43 fouls in the game with 31 turnovers and six blocks. Valdosta State held just a two-rebound edge, 37-35.
Matthews led the Lady Blazers with 14 points. She also had three assists, three steals and one block. Michelle Thompson contributed 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Courtney Mitchell and Brittany Daniels combined for 16 points off the bench. Valdosta State had a total of 20 points from the bench to 19 for the Sharks.
Tamika Booker continues to crash the glass and pulled down eight boards in the game. Mitchell matched Booker's output with eight rebounds of her own.
Nova Southeastern received balanced contributions up and down the roster, but Stevie Kamp led the way with 10 points and five rebounds. Three others scored nine points and one scored eight. Two others shared the lead in rebounds with Kamp at five.
The Lady Blazers continue their road trip at Tampa at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
