Valdosta State Faces No. 8 Delta State
Lady Blazers Meet DSU for Third Time in Second Round of the NCAA Tournament
VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State moved past Fort Valley State to face Delta State at 2 p.m. Sunday in the second round of the NCAA South Regional Tournament.

Lady Blazer Bits - Sunday's game marks the third time Valdosta State has reached the round of 32 teams in the NCAA South Regional Tournament under Head Coach Kiley Hill, and the sixth time in the program's history. - The Lady Blazers won the South Regional twice, in 1983 and 1984. - In nine appearances, Valdosta State is 9-8 in the NCAA Tournament. - The furthest the Lady Blazers have ever gone in the NCAA Tournament was the NCAA Final Four in 1984. Valdosta State fell to Central Missouri State, 74-70. - In the all-time series against Delta State, the Lady Blazers are 4-27 all-time, and 0-2 this season. - The teams last met at at the Gulf South Conference Tournament. Valdosta State advanced to the semifinals, but Delta State beat the Lady Blazers, 72-60, to advance to the GSC finals. - Amanda Haven and Brittany Daniels both led the team in scoring in VSU's last meeting with Delta State. Each player scored 16 points while Leschelle Matthews went for 10 points and five assists. - Delta State has knocked the Lady Blazers out of the last five tournaments in which the teams faced each other, a combination of Gulf South Conference and NCAA South Regional tournaments.
On the Lady Statesemen
Delta State is a perennial powerhouse in NCAA Division II women's basketball. Currently the team is ranked eighth in the nation and boasts two wins over Valdosta State this season.
The Lady Statesmen have won 10 of their last 11 games with the only blemish coming in the Gulf South Championship when Arkansas Tech won, 75-73, in double overtime.
Both Sarita Cooper and Veronica Walker made the NCAA/Daktronics South Regional team and are two of the top three scorers on the team.
On the Lady Blazers
Valdosta State was on a winning streak of its own headed into the Gulf South Conference Tournament. VSU won 15 consecutive games and have won 16 of its last 17 games, only falling to Delta State in the semifinals of the GSC Tournament.
With the projected starting five, Valdosta State has gone 15-1 in games those five have started.
This is the first time Valdosta State has made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament since the 2007-08 season when VSU went all the way to the Sweet Sixteen. With a win Sunday, the Lady Blazers will complete the feat again.
