HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - No. 3 Valdosta State squared off against No. 11 Alabama-Huntsville Sunday. Despite the higher ranking, the Lady Blazers could not get past the Lady Chargers, falling 1-0 and 4-5.
Alyssa Shirey was three of four with a run batted in for the second game while her senior counterpart, Stephanie Carlson, was one of three with two RBIs. Morgan Johnson was one of two in the second game while Amy Brightwell was one of three with an RBI and a run scored. Amber Shaw and Marti Littlefield (two) combined for three runs scored in the game.
Margaret Carter gave up seven hit and four earned runs, but tallied seven strikeouts in just over six innings of play. Meanwhile, Holly Satterfield only gave up three hits and one earned run in six innings. She notched five strikeouts.
Only Brightwell, Shaw and Littlefield were able to notch hits in the first game, but none resulted in wins.
Valdosta State will look to bounce back against West Georgia at 1 p.m. Monday.
