Blazers Take 11 Stroke Lead at Southeastern
Gunn moves into tie for first
VALDOSTA, Ga. - Valdosta State shot a three-under 285 to take an 11 stroke lead after the second round of play of the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate at the par-72, 7,097 yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club Monday.
The Blazers are even par through the first two rounds with a 576 team score. Barry is second at 587 while Armstrong Atlantic is a stroke behind at 588. North Alabama stands fourth after the first day with a 589 and Florida Southern rounds out the top five at 591.
Georgia College was a stroke behind in sixth at 592 while Nova Southeastern stood seventh at 600 and Lander was a stroke back at 601. West Florida (605) and Lynn (606) rounded out the top 10 followed by West Georgia at 607. Columbus State (613), Rollins (616), Florida Tech (617), Carson-Newman (621), Clayton State (623), Delta State (624) and Eckerd (663) closed out the field.
Blazer Chesley Gunn shot a 69 on Monday to move into a tie, with Armstrong Atlantic's Jacob Tilton, for the overall lead with a two-under 142. VSU's Chad Smith is third, just a stroke behind the top two, while Wade Holland is tied for eighth at 145. Fredrick Hildebrand and Will Repko are tied for 43rd at 152.
VSU also has four individuals playing in the event, led by Evan Hanna, who is tied for 14th at a 148. Clarke Hendrick is tied for 49th at 154 and Drew McGuire is tied for 87th at 163 while Jason Groover stands 96th at 178.
The tournament concludes with a single round of play beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
