Valdosta State Falls Short at Regionals
Lady Blazers Fall to Lynn, 5-3
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Valdosta State fell behind, 2-1, in doubles play and could not overcome the deficit in singles. The Lady Blazers fell to Lynn in the NCAA Division II South Regional Championship by a score of 5-3.
Raphaelle Durante and Tina Trautmann were able to claim the only doubles point for the Lady Blazers with an 8-2 victory over Tessie Salame and Jessica Yanoff.
The Lady Blazers tried to bounce back in singles with victories in the first and sixth slots, but Valdosta State could not hold off the Fighting Knights. Gumbrecht beat Jiskrova in the top spot, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 while Haggstrom put away Johnstone with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
Lynn was able to earn the points it needed in the second, third and fourth positions. Durante dropped one to Ekert, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4. Trautmann and Bees both fell in two sets. Iannozzi took down Trautmann, 6-2, 6-1, in the third spot while Bees fell to Yanoff in the fourth slot, 6-1, 6-0.
